I learned of ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ when my husband woke this morning (his birthday, I might add) with his hair all in a tussle, and his manner peculiar as he sort of galumphed about, mumbling of treasure and puttin’ up the jolly roger… Truthfully, I figured he was sleepwalking and would soon do something laughable like open the freezer to order a Big Mac value meal with a Diet Coke. Stranger things have happened around our house, but instead, he headed into our son’s room. As I watched him gently rouse our little man, DH was telling him that it was time to get up or there’d be a trip down the plank soon to follow; his iPatch alarm said it was time to, “Get up, ye scurvy pup!” Our son was quick to join in the fun, and after a bout of questions regarding all the pirateness, my husband told me that today was “Talk Like a Pirate Day.” Not a national holiday, perhaps, but fun no less and promoted by Dave Barry back in 1992 in an article he wrote about the pair of men who started the craze. Five years later, the trend continues to grow, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s event… I’ll be prepared for sure, me hearties… there’ll never be a ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ that’ll catch me unawares again. Fun!

Mrs. Zdenek is LA8 Again!

…And I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Although our year has seemed to get a slow start, which is ironic because I also can’t believe that this week marks the middle of the marking period, we are working toward full-steam now. The kids have been working through a big “Introduction to Writing” piece that is nearing an end… Very soon I’ll be introducing the GLIDES project to them… I’m hoping that they sink their teeth into the concept and produce some creative and thought-provoking products. I know they can do it!
